What
IEEE Ethics Week, brought to you by the IEEE Society on Social Implications of Technology (SSIT), is a weeklong celebration that:
- highlights the wide range of ethics-related activities across all of IEEE’s organizational units, including technical societies and councils, geographic units, standards, publications, and educational programs; and,
- promotes increased engagement and discussion on the ethical questions and challenges associated with technological development.
IEEE Ethics Week will showcase the depth and broad spectrum of IEEE’s engagement with ethical issues in engineering, research, and technology practice and advance those engagements in new and important directions.
Programming will address five areas of focus:
Ethics of Technology
Ethics of technology examines the moral principles guiding the design, deployment, and lifecycle of technological systems.
Research Ethics
Research ethics governs the responsible conduct of research, including fairness, transparency, and integrity in authorship and publication.
Professional Ethics
Professional ethics reinforces high standards of integrity, accountability, and impartial decision-making. It encompasses issues such as managing conflicts of interest, protecting whistleblowers, and upholding the IEEE Code of Ethics.
Ethics in Education
Ethics in education focuses on equipping engineering and technology students with knowledge of professional ethical norms, awareness of the broader ethical, social, environmental implications of technology, and the ability to recognize and address ethical dilemmas in their professional lives.
Ethics in Public Policy
Ethics in public policy explores how ethical reasoning informs IEEE’s engagement with global and regional policy issues.
Who
Whether you are:
- An engineer or technology professional;

- Just looking to explore the multifaceted dimensions of ethics
IEEE Ethics Week provides access to live and virtual events, resources (educational modules, articles, engagement opportunities, etc.) and special offers meant to raise awareness, foster dialogue, and showcase the broad scope of ethics initiatives within IEEE.
